Cabling & Networks

Cabling

The cost of installing a complex cabling system is simply the most expensive part of a large network when labor costs, site changes, possible building codes and environmental costs are taken into account. In the field of structural cabling, there are specialists who know how to recommend an efficient physical layout and implement a color coding system for the cable runs. This will reduce costs in the long run. They can also accommodate future network expansion, so you have room for new growth.

Networking

As networks become more complex, they become more expensive to configure, monitor and maintain. Support costs, including training costs, hiring network administrators and managers, power and bandwidth issues, can add up quickly and cut into your company’s profits.

There are many options to choose from when deciding to expand or upgrade your network. These opportunity costs include the costs associated with the choice not to upgrade or expand. However, the cost of lost competitive advantage, reduced productivity and performance can also be devastating for the company.

The components of VoIP service

VoIP service consists of two components, which are.

Internet access

Companies offer a wide range of bandwidth and IP configurations to suit the needs of the organization. The technician will install a router or switch, if available. The technician may also use an approved router/switch provided by the customer. Verify with your representative that the hardware is certified for use on the network. There must be sufficient space in the cabinet, wall or shelf where the internal wiring terminates to accommodate the router/switch.

Installing the Phone

Phones are delivered directly to your business with the appropriate router/switch. Depending on the timing of your Internet service, you may receive more than one hardware shipment.

Cable Types

The following cables are used for VoIP phones.

Telephone Handset Cord

All landline phones, including IP phones, use a headset cable. These are coiled and have special PVC protection so they can be stretched and released and retained. They are usually 5 or 6 feet long, but you can find cables up to 50 feet long. If you have a PSTN phone, plug the line connector into a wall outlet or ATA plug. The telephone cable is flat and usually grey, but sometimes black or white. Color does not affect performance. These are analogue cables designed to carry both voice and power, so PSTN phones will work in the event of a power failure.

This wire can transmit a wide range of data and is used in a variety of applications such as security systems, credit cards and fax machines. The cable usually has four cores, which means that there can be two telephone connections, each using a pair of cores.

Ethernet Cables

Ethernet cables are wider than telephone cables and are often called Cat5 cables, although technically they are Cat5e or Cat6 cables. Ethernet cables are protected from magnetic interference by a PVC jacket, i.e. they are covered with a special plastic. Category 6 cables are designed for gigabit speeds up to 2000 Mbps. Category 5 cables can only be used for ``high-speed Ethernet`` transmission up to 100 Mbps.
