The My Aged Care Scheme is a 21 billion dollar government funded industry that assists people over the age of 65 with their daily needs to function and live a quality life.

The government is giving those who wish to start a business and current business owners an opportunity (also known as a provider) to easily grow and scale a business while also helping vulnerable people throughout the community (known as a care recipient).

The My Aged Care Scheme is split into 3 sections (more information can be found on our website): 1. Home Care Packages 2. Residential Care 3. Flexible Care

As a business, under the 3 above sections, you can provide services such as nursing, cleaning, gardening, home care needs, therapy, food preparation, continence assistance, laundry, home maintenance, home modifications (e.g ramps), mobility and aids equipment (e.g walkers), transport and social outings.

The government has invested a further 6 billion dollars for aged care support to be provided in order to cater for the increase demand.

As a business owner, you must access a government licence (this is how HCPA helps) in order to provide Home Care, Residential Care or Flexible Care.

Home Care is 1 of the 3 sections under the My Aged Care Scheme. As a business with a Home Care license (which HCPA obtains for you), you can work with a large care recipient base who need support directly from home.

This means, you (or your staff members) will access care recipients homes on a day-to-day basis assisting them with all the tasks that allow them to live a normal, independent life such as: nursing, cleaning, gardening, home care needs, therapy, food preparation, continence assistance, laundry, home maintenance, home modifications (e.g ramps), mobility and aids equipment (e.g walkers), transport and social outings.

Things care recipients won't be funded for are: food, accommodation, holiday travel/accommodation, tickets to sporting events/activities, gambling and medication.

Each care recipient will receive a home care package of funding to spend on you as a home care provider, these packages are as below:

  • Level 1 Home Care Package: Basic Care Needs ($9,026.45 per year)
  • Level 2 Home Care Package: Low Care Needs ($15,877.50 per year)
  • Level 3 Home Care Package: Intermediate Care Needs ($34,550.90 per year)
  • Level 4 Home Care Package: High Care Needs ($52,377.50 per year)

Other fees are included and can be paid to your provider business such as daily fees and private fees which can be discussed with your consultant at HCPA when you enquire.

Residential Care is 1 of the 3 service types under the My Aged Care Scheme. This allows providers (you) to provide accommodation to those who are unable to live independently at home anymore. Usually a care recipient would receive a Home Care Package (HCP) to begin with, as the HCP increases in intensity (Level 1 through to Level 4), meaning, the care recipients care needs are surpassing the funding amounts of the maximum HCP, they will then transition into Residential Care. Under Residential Care, you will provide a complete facility to house a large number of elderly care recipients which may include services such as; personal care 24 hours a day, nursing, general health care, emotional support, therapy, community access, activities, cleaning, laundry and more. The amounts claimable are usually a $550,000 deposit for each care recipient who moves in and any additional costs required. You can charge a mixture of both private funds and government funds. We then will provide ongoing support at the facility to ensure you remain compliant, are being paid and understanding any gaps within the organisation.
